Boogaard brother charged in NHL player’s OD death

The once NHL enforcer Derek Boogaard was out of drug rehab for just one day before being given an unprescribed narcotic pain pill by his younger brother before a night of clubbing. Drug-taking and heavy drinking resulted in his death, prosecutors alleged Friday.

A complaint filed in Hennepin County District Court said Aaron Boogaard(notes), 24, told police he gave his brother a single oxycodone the night before he found Derek Boogaard dead in their Minneapolis apartment May 13. Derek Boogaard, 28, died of what authorities ruled was a toxic mix of alcohol and drugs.

The younger Boogaard was charged Friday with unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, a felony that also applies when narcotics are given away for free. He was also charged with interfering with the scene of a death for allegedly flushing the rest of his brother’s drug stash—a mix of oxycodone and related drugs—down the toilet before police arrived, the complaint alleged.

Tiger Woods Fires Caddie

After a year that has left many questioning, What happened to golf's icon?

Caused by a year plagued by a sex scandal and divorce, a swing change to his game and the loss of four major corporate sponsors.

Now, one of golf’s most successful player-caddie partnerships ended in a board room at Aronimink Golf Club outside Philadelphia two weeks ago when Woods fired his caddie. Both kept the news private until Wednesday, when Woods announced on his website that he and Williams will no longer be working together.

Although Williams was one of Woods' best friends, recently he felt like an outsider to Woods’ schedule and recovery from leg injuries.

Woods had expressed frustration when his caddie of 12 years chose to work for Adam Scott at the U.S. Open, and then signed up to work for the Australian again at the AT&T National and the British Open.

Williams posted a statement on his website that showed this was anything but an amicable split.

“Needless to say, this came as a shock,” said Williams, who changed the photo on his website to show him carrying Scott’s bag. “Given the circumstances of the past 18 months working through Tiger’s scandal, a new coach and with it a major swing and Tiger battling through injuries, I am very disappointed to end our very successful partnership at this time.”

Vick-tim of More Endorsemants

After returning to the league two years ago with many question marks next to his name, endorsements were running away from Michael Vick.

However, on Wednesday, the endorsements keep on coming for the Eagles quarterback, who signed with Nike earlier this month.

Today Vick became an equity partner in Double Eagle Holdings, Ltd., the partner company of Fuse Science, Inc. As part of the agreement, Vick will endorse Fuse Science and its line of sports nutrition vitamins and minerals.

As stated by Vick on Yahoo.com

“Fuse Science has game-changing technology and an incredible team of scientists and business leaders to bring it to market,” Vick said. “I believe these products will revolutionize how athletes provide their bodies with nutrients and medicines, changing what we have come to accept as normal.”

Shaq disses Bosh in TV debut

If there is a NBA season this year, one thing NBA fans can look forward to is a season filled with hilarious commentating by Turner Sports NBA analyst, Shaquille O'Neal.

Yao-uch Anounces Retirement

After a career that has been filled with injuries, Yao Ming has decided to end his basketball career Wednesday in a packed news conference in his hometown in China.

Ming, a 7-foot-6 center for the Houston Rockets and formerly No. 1 draft pick in the 2002 NBA draft, played eight seasons in the NBA, but missed an estimated 250 regular-season games over the past six years.

After weeks of speculation about his retirement Yao opened with a simple statement: “I will formally end my career.”

Although he stated that his playing days are now over, he promised he wouldn’t stay far away from the sport that made him a household name in China. He has expanded the game into a place where many never imagined basketball talent could come from. He has created a boom in merchandise sales for the league and TV ratings that skyrocketed whenever the Rockets played.

Expect Yao Ming to be around the game for the many years to come, as the game needs Ming to help inspire many to come to the NBA with their talents.

Breaking News: Stamkos signed to 5-year deal

NHL hockey All-star center Steven Stamkos signs a five-year deal, worth $37.5 million on Tuesday with the Tampa Bay Lightning. Stamkos was a big contributor in the teams success this past season helping the team make a nice run to the Eastern Conference finals.

Lightning general manger Steve Yzerman announced the deal, saying that even though the deal took several months, Stamkos was never going anywhere.

This is a smart move for the Lightning as they are locking up one of the NHL's greats, and the best has yet to come for Steven Stamkos.

Jose, Jose, Jose

Today, Jose Reyes is ready to come off the disabled list.

The New York Mets star is leading the majors with a .354 batting average and 15 triples. Go figure on a contract year?

All I have to say about this egotistical player is that it makes sense he is having a career season on a year he is going to get paid.

Monday in a rehab game for Class-A- Brooklyn Mets manager Terry Collins said Reyes will be activated Tuesday in time for a three-game series against St. Louis.

Reyes has been sidelined since July 3 with a strained left hamstring. He was available to come off the disabled list on Monday, but the Mets wanted him to test his leg in a game first.

Jose, we all know what your doing this season, the only test your setting yourself up for this year is to test the market. Keep looking at yourself in the jumbo tron after every play and I am sure the bids will grow.

USC- Unlimited Spending of Cash

University of Southern California's premiere tailback Marc Tyler has been suspended from all team activities for comments he made to TMZ that shared he gets paid to play for USC.

When TMZ asked if he could make more money at USC or the NFl, Tyler said, "USC, they breaking bread."

USC coach Lane Kiffin suspended his leading rusher Monday for the Sept. 3 opener against Minnesota and possibly longer. The fifth-year senior is facing potential discipline from the school after what he said were two alcohol-related problems in April.

Well gee, another athlete stating the realities of college sports these days. Who would have thought USC would have learned their lesson anyways?

I say Lane Kiffin is protecting his ass by suspending Tyler so that maybe in his short career at USC he can actually take his team to a bowl game.

Feel free to comment on your feelings

Video: Islanders’ Ryan Strome redic move in shootout

Theeeeeee Yankees Win

With another rough A.J. Burnett outing, tonight for the Yankees didn't look to promising.

However, with the experience and grit of the New York Yankees, no lead is out of reach for the Yanks.

As the Yankees continued to chip away at the Rays lead, Robinson Cano, Mark Teixera, Brett Gardner and Eduardo Nunez drove in runs to bring the Yankees within reach for the second-place Yankees.

Russel Martin made his way to the plate with the bases-loaded in the top of the ninth, as his patience drew a bases-loaded walk with two outs to give the Yankees a 5-4 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday night.

Rookie left-hander Alex Torres (0-1) yielded the winning run in his major league debut after New York loaded the bases on Curtis Granderson's single, an intentional walk to Nick Swisher and another walk to Andruw Jones. Martin worked Torres to a full count, fouled off a pitch and then took ball four to push Granderson across the plate.

The Yanks rallied from a 4-1 deficit to remain 1 1/2 games behind the Boston Red Sox in the AL East standings.

All-Star David Robertson (3-0) had pitched a perfect eighth inning, striking out two to get the victory. As Mariano had his usual outing working a one-two-three ninth to earn his 24th save in 28 opportunities.

A Painful Loss Leaves A Bitter Taste for Team USA

As a tired and disappointed U.S. Women's World Cup team arrived from Germany to Newark, N.J. about 24 hours after the Americans gave up a pair of late one-goal leads and were beaten in penalty kicks by Japan.

The disappointed team was greeted with applause, but why?

Okay, I will go easy on them but how did we end up giving that second goal in extra time? I was extremely shocked it went in but how do we let the Japanese back in?

We had the game in the bag and a slip in the defense leaves Japan the winner after a pitiful round of penalty kicks. A lucky save and a sailor over the crossbar left U.S. in a hole in which Japan capitalized.

Well, a tough loss for the women but many things can be learned from this showing the world cup.

First, women's sports are being followed as fans helped the Women's World Cup final earn the highest television rating for any soccer game on an ESPN network.

The Japanese comeback to beat the U.S. in a penalty shootout drew a 7.4 fast national rating, while also having an average 13.5 million viewers, the sixth most watched soccer telecast ever in the US. Although, this was still runner up to the 1999 Women's World cup final, which had an 11.4 rating.

Second, that we shouldn't ever applause a runner up performance. Especially against a country like Japan. This is America people we never like not being the best.

And lastly the United States both men and women soccer teams need to live up to the hype. Grow a pair and finish what you started, instead of letting down millions of viewers.

British Open Field

Golf a game right now without the sports icon, Tiger Woods, is allowing others to step up and achieve greatness. Each weekend leaves many questioning who will win the tournament or who will be golfs next best story come Sunday's final round.

Seeing Darren Clarke on his way to his first major championship at 42 years of age, left me as the viewer thinking about how much the game of golf has changed in the last year.

This past weekend, the games nice guy Phil Mickelson came out with a gutsy performance in his final round of play coming up short, finishing his seventh runner-up finish in a major.Darren Clarke held his lead to become the oldest first-time winner since Roberto De Vincenzo in 1967.

Although, Clarke and Mickelson fought for the title on Sunday along with talented american Dustin Johnson.
Clark and Mickelson share a bond which in itself show you why these men appreciate the game as much as they do.

Golf a coping mechanism with many of life hardships, is very much a part of both of these men's life. Clarke's wife died of breast cancer in August 2006, and three years later, Micekelson's wife was diagnosed with breast cancer.

Despite these hardships these men still play the game and continue to be good guys off the course. Clarke when hearing of Mickelson's wife's diagnosis phoned Phil and provided him with some voice of reason in 2009.

Well, on Sunday the favor was returned as Mickelson lost the tie for the lead on the back nine holes. Phil as usual smiled through 18 holes and could tell he was genuinely happy for Darren Clarke who won the open in his 20th try at the title.

Clarke shared with people that Tiger Woods had reached out and offered some advice on how to handle the pressure chasing his first major championship.

Oh give it a rest Tiger, the golf game has been fine without you. From youngster Rory Mcilroy winning the US Open and basically giving you the middle finger, to hungry Darren Clarke at 42 years of age, is just the beginning of what great stories the future can bring.

If there is anything a reader should take from this it is that the good guys finish first in the end. Yes Tiger I am calling you out. Your arrogance and disregard to what fans want to see in a winner has finally caught up to you and now I hope you watch the sport and reflect on how much your life has taken a turn for the worse in the past two years.
